Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- After his performances during the first live period, 2014 post player Tariq Owens found himself being a highly sought after player.
Schools such as Ohio, Cal State-Northridge, Rhode Island, Richmond, Virginia Tech, Depaul, N.C. State, Maryland, and Villanova joined VCU, Georgetown, and Miami (Fl) in their pursuit of the shot-blocking big man.
An active big man who is surprisingly quick from end-to-end, it is easy to see why Owens is such an attractive player to coaches. His ability to block shots is elite, and if he isn't blocking shots, he's altering them. Simply put, Owens is a defensive powerhouse.
While his offensive game is behind as far as development goes, Owens can still give a program meaningful minutes from day one due to his shot-bloking prowess.
Tariq said that he's looking for a program where he can play in an uptempo style, and has a great homecourt atmosphere. The big man brings plenty of energy and will electrify crowds with blocks on one end and finishing lobs on the other.
While his recruitment has picked up in the past month, he has decided to narrow things down already. His final four are Ohio, Temple, Cal State-Northridge, and Miami (Fl).
Ohio has had success in recent years and is annually a contender in their conference. Temple will officially be considered a "High Major" program this year, although they have been playing like one for much longer than that. Owens would seem to fit the Miami system very well and admits the Canes are big fans of him. Cal State-Northridge is looking to build on the buzz created by the hire of Reggie Theus, and Owens could be a cornerstone to their program.
Wherever Owens ends up, that program will be getting one of the best shot blockers in the class of 2014.
