Memphis, TN (Future150) -- One of the more underrated prospects in the class of 2014 is officially off the board. C.J. Anderson, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Whitehaven High School (TN), has committed to UMass.
The Team Thad prospect picked the Minutemen over Auburn and Middle Tennessee State, but it wasn't an easy decision.
"I really liked the facilities at Auburn, and Middle Tennessee State was the first school to offer me a scholarship, but UMass ultimately was the best fit for me," he told Future150.
"The relationship that myself and my family has with coach Shyrone Chatman really sealed the deal for me. He's been on me since the 9th grade."
After talking to his AAU coach, Norton Hurd of Team Thad, it's evident that the Minutemen may be landing one of the biggest steals in the 2014 class.
"C.J. is a very good, skilled combo guard. He's actually more of a point guard than a shooting guard, he just didn't get a chance to showcase his skills at the position because of how highly regarded Chris Chiozza is and the phenomenal year he had for us," he informed us.
"He was probably the most versatile prospect we had. He has an excellent chance to have a better college career than some of his more talented teammates on our Team Thad roster."
Those are big words considering the majority of his teammates are bonafide high major division one prospects. Time will tell if C.J. can back up his coach's high praise, but we wouldn't bet against the talented and humble guard.
