Atlanta, GA (Future150) -- Harvard has made some big strides the past few years under the command of head coach Tommy Amaker. After this weekend, it looks like the future may be even brighter for the Crimson.
Andre Chatfield, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Norcross (GA), gave his commitment to Harvard following his official visit.
“Harvard gives me the best of both worlds,” Chatfield told Future150.com. “I feel like I will fit in with the team really well.”
Of course, the academics really stood out for Chatfield and his family.
“The academic part is great. It’s a blessing just to have the opportunity to go to Harvard. I know that if basketball doesn’t work out, God forbid, I will graduate with a Harvard degree.”
Amaker and his staff also made Chatfield very comfortable throughout the recruiting process. The coach is only icing on the cake for the Ivy League school.
“Coach [Tommy] Amaker is a great coach. He has made me feel very comfortable and welcoming during the whole process. I feel like I fit in there,” he explained.
Both parties are aware of what Chatfield will have to bring to the table when he steps foot on the floor in the next few years. He says he is just excited for the opportunity.
“As of now, I know they will need another creator that can get the ball up the floor, so I’m looking forward to coming in and taking advantage of that. But I’m going to do whatever coach asks.”
Chatfield also considered Princeton and LSU.
He is a three-star recruit and will look to help lead his Norcross team to another state title in Georgia in 2013-14.
